In our favorite Brunello-Goes-Cindarella story, we’re thrilled to bring you the stunning and delectable Ciacci Piccolomini d`Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso 2017 at one of the most competitive prices on the market.

“The Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso shows nice balance and elegance, and it definitely shows the deft hand of the winemaking team in what was not an easy vintage by any stretch.” – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

It’s a textbook Italian history lesson: the Palazzo and estate built by a local bishop atop a very pretty hill passed through time and the ecclesiastical inheritance from the 17th century until 1985. A series of marriages gave rise to the name that requires non-native speakers to drink a bottle to pronounce – Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona (roll the ‘r’).

But something unique happened in 1985, something unexpected. The property hadn’t made wine for public consumption, despite the wishes of Countess Ciacci Piccolomini’s farm manager, Giuseppe. Upon her passing, the Countess left the estate, Palazzo and all, to Giuseppe. And a wine legacy was born. The Bianchini family continues to manage and live at the property. Giuseppe brought a stunning Brunello di Montalcino to the world bearing the Ciacci Piccolimini name and his thumbprint. His children were born on the estate, playing among the olive trees and vines planted by their father’s dream.

Critics’ Reviews:

Wine Enthusiast 95: “ This full-bodied red starts off with aromas of leather, forest floor and camphor. Enveloping and structured, the palate shows a weightless concentration, featuring dried cherry, licorice, tobacco and a hint of orange zest framed in velvety tannins. Drink 2024–2029. ” – Kerin O’Keefe

James Suckling 94: “ This is a beautifully crafted and polished Brunello for this vintage, with full body and creamy, lightly chewy tannins. Dark berries, walnuts and cedar with dried-flower undertones. Needs time to soften, but very pretty. Drink after 2024.” – James Suckling

Wine Advocate 94: “The Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso shows nice balance and elegance, and it definitely shows the deft hand of the winemaking team in what was not an easy vintage by any stretch. This pretty wine delivers lots of fresh cherry and wild rose, with ferrous earthy, licorice and grilled herb; I also get bay leaf and rosemary sprig. Like the annata 2017 Brunello produced by this estate, the single-vineyard Brunello Pianrosso is distinguished by a sweet cherry note (plus a hefty 15% alcohol) that accompanies the wine from start to finish.” – Monica Larner
