Champagne Charlie’s Triumphant Return

Only 5 vintages of Champagne Charlie we made by lauded Daniel Thibaut. The 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1985 bottlings made their celebratory rounds. Much loved and prized for their freshness and bold vintage character, the Charlie was shuttered away to avoid drawing attention from big brother Krug.

But no more – revived and revealed by chef de cave Cyril Brun, Heidsieck’s beloved Champagne Charlie’s triumphant return is cause for celebration. Now blended by masterful skill, the message in the bottle is clear: Champagne Charlie offers you a lovely opportunity to savor a brilliant past and toast Heidsieck’s very tasty horizon.

“Everyone knows about the genie inside the lamp. You rub the lamp, and the genie pops out. For the Champagne Charlie cuvée, we were faced with the reverse: we had to take inspiration from history, starting with the founder’s character, Charles-Camille Heidsieck (1822 – 1893), to create a champagne wine worthy of his character.” – Cyril Brun, Chef de Cave

Critics’ Reviews:

Wine Enthusiast 100: “The return with a new iteration of this iconic Champagne, first produced in the 1980s, and named after Charles Heidsieck one of the great Champagne promoters of the 19th century, is to be welcomed. The wine itself lives up to the billing of its history, rich in the house style and with just a hint of maturity. This great wine, still full of white fruits, has so many years ahead. The wine is likely to mature gently for a decade at least.” – Roger Voss
